This unique 18th Century Flintlock Pistol has an octagonal-to-round blued barrel. This classic replica gun features an elaborately engraved simulated brass receiver and engraved faux ivory grip and eagle head handle
The original of this particular flintlock pistol was made circa 1790 in Tula, Russia, by Ivan Lyalin and its decoration and finish, as compared with Western European models, is distinctive. The original exists in a museum in hermitage
In 1712, Tula was visited by Peter the Great, who commissioned the Demidov blacksmiths to build the first armament factory in Russia. Several decades later, Tula was turned by the Demidovs into the greatest ironworking center of Eastern Europe. The oldest museum in the city, showcasing the history of weapons, was inaugurated by the Demidovs in 1724, and Nicholas-Zaretsky Church in the city houses their family vault
The second half of 18th century was marked with the prosperity of Tula gunsmith craft. Artistically decorated Tula arms and civilian articles were in great demand. The invention of unique and smart technique as the miter cutting on steel as well as the other ways of metal finishing and wooden articles were rooted in that time. By the end of the 18th century the names of remarkable gunsmiths became well-known, among them Ivan Pushkin, Ilya Lyalin - the inventor of double-barrel breech-loading flintlock shotgun and Ivan Polin - the designer of one of the first models of multicharged firearm
