Description
This miniature portrait is Napoleon II, Duc de Reichstadt, who was the son of Napoleon I. Miniatures were very popular in the 19th
century and this portrait of the duke in a white colonel's uniform was extensively copied. This one looks to be a transfer image on porcelain with hand painted gold accents. It is housed in an ornate brass ormolu frame with bow decoration at top and suspension loop on back. Not signed or dated but very nicely done and the frame is sealed with an authentic patina. Likely dates from the mid 19th-century. The enamel has slight wear (see pics). Measures 5 5/8” L and 3 7/8” wide. This will be carefully wrapped and shipped USPS Priority Mail.
