    Description

This is a paper sewing pattern.
This sewing pattern is for the 1805 Gilet for French Napoleonic Reenactment uniforms.  The gilet is a sleeveless vest like garment worn under the Habite Longe (long tailed coat with cutaway front).  It features a stand collar, button front, notched bottom and pockets with scalloped pocket flaps.  The garment is hipbone length.  It has curved seams on the back sides and a center back seam.  The French army made this garment in unbleached "white" wool.  This pattern does not have hems, the edge of the fabric was left raw because of the good quality of the wool, and it would not fray out.  Suggestions are given for ordering fabric.
Please be aware that military uniforms of the times had similar styles, so this could be adapted for other nationalities by changing fabric colors and details.
I developed my own patterns for this reenactment hobby to help clothe our troops.  My main resource was plates form "Uniformes de L'armee Francasies, De Fountenoy a Waterloo" by Michael Petard.
These patterns are based on American standard chest sizes of 38/40, 42/44 and 46/48 inches.
This auction is for the 46/48 inches size.
I print patterns once a week.
The pattern is printed on bond paper and has complete instructions with illustrations.
